The final day of the Bodyboard Pro Festival was completed at Isla De Margarita in front of a massive crowd. The swell had a bit more size and punch and the clouds parted and created an awesome atmosphere for both competitors and spectators alike.

The day started with the Women’s quarter finals and the level of competition was incredible right from the get go. Isabella Sousa (Brz) Natasha Sargardia (Prc) Neymara Carvalho (Brz) & Eunate Aguirre (Spn) all had wins with Soraia Rocha (Brz) and Naara Caraline (Brz) also surfed with passion and flare. Into the semis and the crowd & surf increases allowing for some mind blowing performances.

Saturday, 25 October 2008 |
The second last event on the IBA World Women’s Tour got underway in Venezuela today on Isla De Margarita and the girls put on an amazing display of elite bodyboarding in the small random peaks.
Portugal’s Rita Pires was the most notable first round casualty with a third place in her first heat.
Joining her on the sideline were other top seeds Annabella Guittard (Vnz) Izamar Vivas (Vnz) & Andrea Carvalho (USA)
The recently crowned ISA World Champion Natasha Sargardia (Prc) showed flashes of brilliance but was beaten into second in the closing stages by Brazilian Jessica Becker
Current ratings leader Isabela Sousa (Brz) fired off a warning shot over the head or her rivals when she blitzed the first round with a confident performance. Her focus is obvious as she tries to capture her first IBA World Title.
Isabella was both the highest scorer of the day (8.17) and held the best two wave combo (14.5)
Brazilian Naara Caroline also looked in fine touch smashing her way to Victory in heat 6.
Venezuela’s highest rated competitor Lumar Guittard stoked the crowd when she snuck into the quarters behind Soria Rocha (Brz). Lumar had to hold off a determined Ruth Parra (Vnz) to finish second.

First day underway… |

Friday, 24 October 2008 |
Day 1 of the Bodyboard Pro Festival got underway today in some really fun sized shifty peaks at Playa Agua.
The last event on the IBA Latin American Tour kicked off with almost 60 riders battling it out for the US$8,000 prize pool.
Last years winner Sergio Alonso was the standout of the day with a blistering combination of spins, rolls and flips that had the crowd hooting.
This guy is a local here and it was blatantly obvious that he has the place completely wired as he dialled up set after set and put on a show that would have most Pro’s on the IBA World Tour shaking in their boots.
“ I happy” was I could squeeze out of him after he left the water.
Another noticeable performance came from Venezuelan David Mantelini.

He surfed with speed , power & confidence to establish himself as one of the guys to beat.
IBA World Tour competitors also showed experience with Dave Hubbard, Uri Valadao & Ardiel Jiminez all through to tomorrows rounds.
Tomorrow will see the start of the IBA WWT event as well as the IBA DK.
A massive crowd is expected to roll up and watch and with an expected increase in swell the action will be awesome.

Venezuela set for big first day…
The first day of competition gets underway in Venezuela tomorrow as the worlds best Women do battle for the 2008 IBA World Title.
Current ratings leader Isabella Sousa from Brazil is here and is looking relaxed.
“Yes I am feeling good” said Isabella.
“I am really having fun on the Tour this year and this is why I did not go to the ISA World games”
“ I want to focus on the IBA World Tour”
“ I know where the other girls are placed but this does not concern me. I will just concentrate on my job”
With just two events remaining the race for the WWT (Women’s World Tour) title is wide open with just a few hundred points separating the top 8 riders.
Current ratings leader Isabella Sousa (Brazil) is on 2840 and the other top 8 riders are right on her tail.
- Neymara Carvhalo (Brz) 2790
- Mayla Venturin (Brz) 2610
- Eunate Aguirre (Spn) 2580
- Naara Caroline (Brz) 2490
- Christine Kale (Brz) 2480
- Jessica Becker (Brz) 2445
- Maira Viana (Brz) 2290
To say that the Brazilian women have dominated this years IBA World Tour would almost be an understatement with just one rider (Eunate Aguirre, Spain) penetrating the Top 8.
The last event on the 2008 IBA Latin American Tour is also being contested and this has enticed the best South American riders to Isla De Margarita.
Leading the pack is the Brazilian flyboy Uri Valadao who is using this event as a warm up for the showdown he faces in the Canary Islands.
Uri is in a tight race for the IBA Men’s crown along with Guilherme Tamega (Brz) and Ben Player (Aust) and was pretty casual when asked about his chances of becoming a World Champion.
“We will see soon” was his humble reply.
Uri also looks set to capture the IBA Latin American crown after the withdrawal of frontrunners Luis Villar and Paulo Barcellos.
Last years winner Sergio Alonso (Vnz) is here and looking sharp in the free surfing sessions as is David Mantellini (Vnz) and Alberto Collucci (Vnz).
Also on show here in Venezuela is the best DK riders in the world as round two of the IBA DK Tour gets underway.
Hawaiian Dave Hubbard is the current ratings leader after winning the first event in Ferrol, Spain.
Dave wowed the crowd at the press conference with his Spanish but will have is work cut out by Canary Island local Ardiel Jiminez and Portugal’s Iva Mochacho.
